Parent Coffee Information from April 1st

Dear Parents,

This week’s topic was navigating Blackbaud – our online grade and attendance management system. I have a recap of what we talked about here, and, more importantly, step-by-step instructions here for you: How to use Netclassroom – Blackbaud

Hope to see you next week for our MSP Test Preparation Coffee!

Parent Coffee Recap from March 25th

Dear Parents!

What fun it was to see some of you at Math Night last night! I appreciate the support we get from parents coming to school events – much like those of you who come to our Parent Coffees!

Here is the information from this week’s coffee – Emotional Intelligence. As well as a link  to the Prezi about the topic. You’ll find that they both match up, with the pdf detailing what is shown in the Prezi! Also, you can watch the video recap here.

Winter Parenting Calendar

Dear Parents,

The upcoming parenting events from the Puget Sound Adlerian Society are listed in their quarterly calendar. Here it is for you also. As usual, I’d recommend opening and reading it, rather than printing it, because it’s quite extensive.

Parent Coffee Information from March 18th

Dear Parents,

This week we talked all about Middle School Math. You can catch the video recap here.

One thing that surfaced in this week’s discussion was the need for more support with Blackbaud – so look for that coming up!

Here is a list of tips for helping your student with working out their home work. Some pieces may feel familiar, but the last section is particularly valuable – including Math concepts in every day happenings. It’s worth checking out! Homework Tips – Math

Hope to see you next week for our Parent Coffee – all about Emotional Intelligence!

Parent Coffees – Handouts, questions, and videos!

Dear Parents,

I have not posted in quite a while – this is changing now. Following our weekly parent coffees, I will be posting relevant information here, as well as creating a weekly video with tips and a recap for you to view. Hopefully you will find this information helpful and interesting! Don’t forget to email me (at ktaylor@shat613.org) or call (206.323.7933 x 253) if you need any more help!

Here are some handouts (JFS Parent Coffee Handouts) from this week’s Parent Coffe, as well as a link to the video recap. Enjoy!

Self-Efficacy, Values and Happiness

Dear Parent,

This article really does a great job of highlighting what we can help our girls (and, to be honest, our boys too) focus on in order to develop a strong sense of self and the ability to create their own happiness. The article may be on the Huffington Post website, but the sources and content are pretty strong, and well worth the read! Check it out:

Quiz Time!

Dear Parent,

Are you ready to take a “happy family” quiz? No, it’s not a measurement of how well you parent… your students already do your parenting credit! But it is an interesting way to find out more tips on parenting/family relationships. I saw this in Sunday’s Seattle Times (in the Parade magazine):

It’s worth looking into!

Winter Parenting Calendar

Dear Parent,

The Puget Sound Adlerian Society has published its Winter Parenting calendar, full of resources for parents in the Puget Sound area. They advise readers to not print the calendar out, because it is 50 pages long and has a tendency to change.
